Policy
Preservation Wayne and it partners promote progressive preservation legislation at the local, state and federal levels.
Supporting the endeavor of the Detroit Historic District Commission and Historic Designation Advisory Board, Preservation Wayne works to push for a greater awareness of preservation issues at all levels of local government, from the mayor’s office to city council.
At the state level, Preservation Wayne works with the Michigan Historic Preservation Network (MHPN) and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to promote development tools such as Michigan’s historic tax credit program and Governor Granholm’s Cool Cities initiative.
As a local partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Wayne supports holistic federal legislation that encourages the continued availability of the federal historic tax credits, as well as other programs such as new market tax credits and façade easement programs that foster economic activity in places like Detroit.
